Overview

Lindy, an AI startup, needed a Chrome extension that could bring its AI Executive Assistant into the tools people already use every day — beginning with inbox management across Gmail and Outlook.

Challenge

The extension was part of a broader push around user retention and continued growth, bringing Lindy directly into daily work. As the sole contracted designer, I owned the product experience from onboarding and injection patterns to end-to-end flows, component creation, and interaction behaviours.

Approach

The design needed to include key components and features. Lindy appears across Gmail and Outlook, the tools people already work in every day. This was an opportunity to make AI agent actions visible and tangible: showing users what had been labeled, drafted, summarized, or handled instead of hiding work behind automation.

COMPONENTs

There was no existing design system when I started. By sifting through existing Lindy designs, I matched the visual language Lindy uses across its other surfaces, so the extension felt like a cohesive part of the agentic ecosystem. I built each component, with states and variables, into a small component library. This cut down on development handoff friction, made quick iteration possible, and made it easy for future designers to reuse.

Dynamic Tab

Lives on every screen, so you can summon Lindy without leaving what you’re doing. Hover to start a chat. Lindy also learns from your labels and rewrites over time, and will nudge you when something important slips by.

Labels

Automatically labels and sorts your inbox, then adjusts based on what you dismiss, teach, or reassign.

Daily digest

A summary at the top of your inbox showing what Lindy handled overnight and what still needs your attention.

Compose bars

Exposes quick-action chips inside the compose bar, so common actions are one click away.

outcome

The extension was part of Lindy's broader push to retain users through an ecosystem approach, embedding the assistant into tools people already rely on daily, rather than asking them to visit Lindy directly. As the sole designer on it, I handed off a full set of components and interaction patterns the team could extend as that ecosystem grew.
